The long-established international Italian label has been making innovative collections since way back in 1923. With urbanwear and sports apparel for men, women and kids, this brand has everyone covered, no matter what the weather may have in store. The label also specialises in skiwear, from high-performance jackets and pants to mid and base layers, accessories, and even official racing suits to top the list. Their urban originals feature their signature winter down jackets, lightweight down jackets and other jackets of all types and styles, as well as clothing basics, accessories, shoes and recycled essentials. The vibe is as fresh, sleek and modern as it is comfortable and durable. According to many fashion enthusiasts, Colmar spells out an equation for success – trendy plus high-performance equals totally awesome.

Their minimalist styling makes the unique pieces highly versatile, and an easy and obvious addition to any personal fashion closet. The “mix-and-matchability” makes the pieces effortlessly styleable and can help maximise the wardrobe you already have. Colmar’s exciting collections feature high-quality items with innovative materials that exemplify the label’s dedication to sustainability. The brand’s uncomplicated style make it a cinch to look incredible, so you can spend less time deciding what to wear and prioritise your time for doing whatever it is you love to do the most – whether it’s shredding on the slopes, meeting up with friends, or enjoying time alone on a nature hike.

Colmar – A century of stellar sportswear

Now that’s a long time, one hundred years – well, just about. Next year, in 2023, the distinctive Italian brand will be celebrating a full century of high-performance apparel. It was in 1923 that Mario and Irma Colombo started the business that would become Colmar. The name of the now world-famous brand was born as mere scribbles on a cigarette carton during a friendly brainstorm at the bar. The name consists of a combination of the first letters of Mario Colombo’s surname and first name. Responding to the demand of their local community, the Colombo dream team first began making felt gaiters and evolved from there.

Even though times were tough in the beginning, facing immense challenges as the Great Depression and other factors slowed businesses down, Colmar kept going strong. With its innovative spirit and lots of hard work, the label adjusted to the times and changed the main items of production. Assessing market demand, the brand began making work overalls from cotton that had undergone a special treatment process. This uniquely-treated cotton was ingeniously used to create a unique cape designed for skiers. Resembling a bat’s wing, this inflatable, high-performance cape, or “Thirring,” was a pioneering creation that brought recognition to the still-nascent brand. Speed skiing champion Leo Gasperl used this special cape in the St. Moritz skiing competition where he competed for the speed skiing record. Gasperl attested to the Thirring’s effectiveness, and in turn cemented the skiwear focus and success that Colmar continues to have today.

Iconic winterwear - getting down to it

Since jackets – and especially down jackets – are something that this brand really does well, let’s take a closer look at some of the features and designs that set them apart from the rest. Colmar presents down jackets for the different requirements of the seasons, whether you might be needing a heavy-duty down jacket to keep you warm in the chilliest winter months, or a lightweight down jacket so you are just toasty enough but still have excellent freedom of movement to help put that spring in your step. It can be a great help to check out the various features, so you can choose exactly what you need. Breathability, weight, warmth, and price are a few significant factors in determining what kind of gear will best suit your purposes.

These stylish down jackets typically feature natural down padding, regular quilting, a zip closure, water-repellent treatment and an appliqué logo on the sleeve. Some feature a fixed or detachable hood, while other models are hoodless. Other styles offer zippered pockets, elasticated banding on hood, bottoms, and cuffs, and contrast lining. Colmar jackets are like sublimated puffer jackets, with their flattering silhouettes, seamless stitching, and modern vibe. With design this fresh, you’re bound to get excited for cooler weather just so you can wear your chic down jacket. Another really cool item the brand offers is the down gilet, also known as a vest or sleeveless jacket. These iconic sportswear pieces are perfect for mid-season and excellent for layering as the weather gets increasingly cooler. So, no matter whether you style it with your fave sweatshirt, chunky sweater or sporty coat, you’ll always be fashionable and ready for any temperature.

Special Technical Features and Materials

Teflon EcoElite is the name of the brand’s special eco-friendly water-repellent treatment. It is fluorocarbon (PFC) free and contains up to 60% renewable sources. This treatment effectively repels water from the surface of the jacket, so that you can stay dry and comfy in even the heaviest of downpours. Another exclusive technical feature is Colmar Green Path, which was created with the intent to protect and care for the planet. All apparel that bear this label have either been created with recycled materials or undergone eco-friendly treatment processes, or a combination of the two.

Colmar Thermotec is a selective technical polyester microfiber yarn that has superior heat-retaining properties. This extraordinarily insulating material can hold in a layer of air to keep the cold out and the cosy warm inside. It is incredibly stretchy, breathable, lightweight, and super soft, making it an excellent, high-performance material that allows free range of movement while providing warmth for harsh conditions. Yet another marvellous technical feature is Dryarn® yarn, which you might be able to guess has the unique property of keeping you dry and warm. What’s more, it is a natural antibacterial and keeps sweaty sports clothes smelling their best through your toughest workout. This exclusive yarn has both high breathability as well as superior insulating properties.
